How we make the maps

MuseMaps combines high-resolution satellite images, seafloor and land elevation data to generate unique presentations for your interior design. Our maps are designed, composed and optimized by professional geomaticians and artists for decorative purposes by MuseMaps based on data collected by NASA and the British Oceanographic Data Centre.

The high resolution land images are accredited to the renowned space agency NASA. The data was originally acquired by the MODIS satellites of NASA and is subsequently processed for optimal representation. MODIS is playing a vital role in the development of validated, global, interactive Earth system models able to predict global change accurately enough to assist policy makers in making sound decisions concerning the protection of our environment.

The global seafloor topology data is accredited to the acclaimed natural environment research council British Oceanographic Data Centre. The bathymetry data is derived from the General Bathymetric Chart of the Oceans (GEBCO), GEBCO_08 Grid version 20100927. GEBCO aims to provide the most authoritative, publicly-available bathymetry data sets for the world’s oceans. It operates under the joint auspices of the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO and the International Hydrographic Organization.

MuseMaps are created for decorative purposes, as wall art in your home or workspace, but they can also be used for educational purposes. MuseMaps supports the use of our maps in schools and offices as a way to show our children, each other, and ourselves the beauty and significance of this planet we all live on.
